When the cursor blinks and the mind goes blank.
She sips her hot water and opens her laptop.
The screen glows back at her, full of possibility… and yet her mind goes blank — again. She’s been here before.
She just wants to take pretty pictures, meaningful photographs that make people feel something. But being a photographer in 2025 requires so much more. Now she’s supposed to write blogs too? It doesn’t come naturally, and time is already stretched thin, being a mum to three young children herself.
Running a photography business is far from “just pressing a button.”
There’s the editing, the emails, the planning, the location scouting, the networking, the website design, learning new skills, juggling multiple social media platforms — and that’s only scratching the surface.
Would I have it any other way?
Honestly… probably not.
Because my passion for photography — and for this little business I’ve poured my heart into is what keeps me moving forward. Every kind word, every booking, every bit of support, and every message saying how much your images mean to you gives me a boost of encouragement. A reminder of why I do this.
A reminder that all the behind-the-scenes chaos is worth it.
But here’s the thing I’m slowly learning…
Running a creative business isn’t just about the art — it’s about sharing the story behind the art too. The maternity magic, the newborn details, the photos that capture your unique family. People don’t just want to see beautiful photographs; they want to know the heart behind the lens too. They want to understand the intention, the process, the passion that shapes the images they treasure.
So here I am, writing this blog.
Not because it comes easily, but because it matters (I think).
If photography has taught me anything, it’s that the imperfect beginnings are often the most meaningful. The magic rarely happens instantly. It unfolds slowly — in the in-between moments, the honest interactions, the laughter, the chaos, the gentle pauses. And somehow, all those tiny pieces come together to create something beautiful.
That’s how this business feels too.
Between the early mornings and late-night editing, the emails, the admin, the creative blocks, the self-doubt, the planning, the weather watching, the learning, the unlearning… there’s a purpose running through all of it.
A purpose rooted in connection, storytelling, and the simple wish to create photographs that feel like home. That feel real.
So if you’ve ever supported my work — whether you booked a session, shared a post, recommended me to a friend, or simply sent a message telling me how much an image meant to you, please know this: you’re part of the reason I keep going.
You’re part of my why.
And maybe writing blogs won’t always feel easy, but if they help me share more of this journey, the real bits, the behind-the-scenes, the heart of what I do, then perhaps they’re worth embracing too.
Here’s to the messy, beautiful, ever-evolving world of running a photography business in 2025.
And here’s to the stories still waiting to be captured.
